The Advisory Committee of Sustainable Forest-based Industries (ACSFI) referenced the essential role that forestry and forest products have played during the pandemic from providing personal protective equipment, biomass for heating, ethanol for sanitizer, respirator paper, and packaging for food and parcels – and how they can help drive economic recovery.
The International Council of Forest and Paper Associations (ICFPA) welcomed the ACSFI’s statement to align with United Nations ambitions by building a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future. The forestry sector has heeded the call with quality products that keep people and the planet in mind. The ultimate goals for the industry are to bring down our carbon footprint, economic growth and family-supporting labourers.
Concluding that forestry, pulp and paper sector companies are well-positioned to lead the route to a low carbon economy, making use of the “ultimate renewable” to address both climate change and stop the free fall in job losses.
